National PTA, Facebook to promote safe surfing

Social networking giant Facebook together with the National Parent Teacher Association (PTA) are coming up with a program to promote safe internet surfing. This covers responsible surfing for kids, parents and teachers.

Both parties have agreed to make a comprehensive program that will encourage online citizenship. However, they are stressing on the reduction of cyberbullying, promoting advanced online security and safety.

The details of the program are still not complete. However, Facebook officials revealed that it is committing about $1 million through promotions of this program in the site. Both parties have agreed to “shrink the digital divide, by reaching families, regardless of income or race and providing them with tools and resources to keep them digitally smart online,” based on a statement.

Facebook started as a social networking site for Ivy League schools. It become a global phenomenon due to user friendly applications and easy access to users worldwide.
