More than twenty individuals went snorkeling at the Magnetic Island in the nude to set a world record attempt. Aside from that, it is their way of helping to save the Great Barrier Reef.

About 23 nude snorkelers with ten naked swimmers who did not go snorkeling with ages ranging from 19 to 60 took part in this feat. Organizers had expected an attendance of more than one hundred. The event which was part of the global celebrations for World Oceans Day aims to raise awareness to the world about the reefs.

Base Backpackers organized the nude snorkeling activity at Nelly Bay Beach. General Manager Ben Schultz said that the snorkelers avoided the nearby fish feeding station in the beach because the sergeant major reef fishes are said to be congregating in the area and are hungry at this time of the year.
